The Edge of Glory

“On edge”, your daughter summed it up well.

Agitated, restless, impatient, excited, stressed, holding on to to restraint, containing your desire, reactive, waiting to react, measuring the actions of your opponent and then responding.

For you have always wondered why the “Edge”.

Out of many names, this was the one that seemed to add the right element, yet it has remained a mystery.

For how do you know your limit unless you have been taken to the edge, the brink, the limit of your capacity.

You remember a great quote from many years ago, that we can always do more than we think we can.

You of all people like to break the limit, give no regard to the limit, to stretch the boundary of what is possible. How many limits have you broken, only to find a way forward, a workaround that removes or eliminates the restriction?

So many Lord I have lost count, but only by your hand.

Yet in other ways you remain confined, bound up, caught up, on the edge, but refusing to cross the line.

What is it that holds you back? Who is it that holds you back? Who is it that has your back? Who is it that holds you up?

There are some areas I have lost hope, yet am still in pursuit. I am so tired of the small talk, the meaningless interactions, the trivial pursuit, the pursuit of trivia. I just want to excuse myself, to withdraw, to put a lid on your power, to go off the grid. Yet I have seen and observe and feel it so intensely. I walk into church and its like paying heaven a visit, entering a new dimension. I feel restrained by decorum, by protocol, by the agenda of the enemy. The lukewarm posture is so abhorrent to me, and yet it pushes me to be either hot or cold, to contend or to withdraw. So here I find myself on edge, bursting forth with great restraint. I have seen and know what it is that you want to do through me, I’m wrestling with the fact that I’d like to be the gentle Bruce Banner, and yet you have called me to be the giant slaying, spectacle creating Hulk!

So what is your alternative?

Many would contend that the Avengers lost because the Hulk refused to come out and fight. That the man made attempt to expand his strength was nothing in comparison to the power that would have come supernaturally.

Yet I know that you refuse to be defeated, failure is not an option, withdrawal is not sustainable.

So here you find yourself upon the edge, on the edge, standing on the pinnacle rock.

“I am not an ordinary person” was this not the poster that has defined you.

You say to your son, don’t try – do. What is it you are really saying?

Don’t focus on the effort, the performance, just be all that you can be, for it is by being that you can do it.

For in Him we live and breathe and have our being.

So you can no longer stand on the line, you must cross it, be all that I have called you to be, become all that you are.

For you consider yourself the shepherd boy, alone in the field, tending to the sheep, yet I consider you…

The slayer of the lion and the bear.

The protector and guardian of the sheep.

A man after my own heart.

A inspiration to many.

The instrument of victory.

The advocate for my people.

A great leader.

A mighty hero.

It makes no sense for the one who possesses the power to bring victory for my people to sit on the sideline!

Don’t count yourself out, count yourself in. Say to the enemy “I’m coming in”, say to him “I’m counting you out”. Don’t factor him into your equation.

Count him out. Say “1, 2, 3 you’re out”. Say to him “you’re offside”. Say to him “you’re out of bounds”. Say to him your boundary line, where he has drawn the line has no bearing on the extent of your territory.

Say to him “I’m coming over”. Say to him “I’ve crossed the line”. Say to him “don’t count me out”. Say to him how he does maths has no bearing on your product.

Say to him “irrelevant”, “not relevant”, “not up for discussion”.

For where I have called you to walk has no boundary, land or water makes no difference to me. Natural boundaries do not limit my movement.

Have you noticed a new pattern?

You pray and I deliver. The meeting scheduled for two hours delivers a better outcome in 20mins.

For I have given you favour, my cup of favour, without measure.

Through you I am blowing minds, blowing in their mind, breathing new life into their mind.

For that which was hard shall now be easy. Just walk with me. Just come for a walk with me upon the water. Take a leap over the edge.

For what is your favourite edge?

The edge where the land meets the sea, where the flow meets the boundary, laps the boundary, overflows the boundary.

For when you walk into church it is literally walking into heaven.

Now I want to bring heaven to earth. Lord it over them. Give them a heavenly experience, give them a heavenly experience, give them a dose of heaven.

Two by two take my glory with you, seriously just give them a glimpse of my glory. For it shall be glorious!

Luke 10:1-9 NOW AFTER this the Lord chose and appointed seventy others and sent them out ahead of Him, two by two, into every town and place where He Himself was about to come (visit). And He said to them, The harvest indeed is abundant there is much ripe grain, but the farmhands are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. Go your way; behold, I send you out like lambs into the midst of wolves. Carry no purse, no provisions bag, no change of sandals; refrain from retarding your journey by saluting and wishing anyone well along the way. Whatever house you enter, first say, Peace be to this household! Freedom from all the distresses that result from sin be with this family. And if anyone worthy of peace and blessedness is there, the peace and blessedness you wish shall come upon him; but if not, it shall come back to you. And stay on in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not keep moving from house to house. Whenever you go into a town and they receive and accept and welcome you, eat what is set before you; And heal the sick in it and say to them, The kingdom of God has come close to you.
