Stillness
Come and experience my stillness.
Let’s go for a walk on the boardwalk.
What is it you hear? What is it you feel? What is it you see?
I hear the sound of stillness. No birds, just the gentle lapping of the waves. The sun shines and I feel the warmth of your embrace. The boats are at anchor, the ropes tied to the shore. I feel calm. I feel at ease.
Would you like something to eat? I know you are weary and worn out.
Come and rest a while. Just put your feet up. Yes just put your feet up. No need to move. No need to rush. Take hold of stillness. Just be still.
Psalms 23:2-3 He makes me lie down in fresh, tender green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters. He refreshes and restores my life (my self); He leads me in the paths of righteousness uprightness and right standing with Him—not for my earning it, but for His name’s sake.
Let me attend to you. Let me take care of it. Be at rest. I’ve got it sorted.
Just breathe. See the promise in your breath. Blow and see the mist move, but the promise remains.
The sun shining in the mist, in the midst.
What is it you see?
The storm clouds retreating in the distance.
It is the dark clouds, it is the storm that provides contrast, that reveals the promise, that highlights the promise.
For the light shines brightest in the storm. Even in the darkest place the lightning strikes. The lightening strikes.
Psalms 107:28-31 Then they cry to the Lord in their trouble, and He brings them out of their distresses. He hushes the storm to a calm and to a gentle whisper, so that the waves of the sea are still. Then the men are glad because of the calm, and He brings them to their desired haven. Oh, that men would praise and confess to the Lord for His goodness and loving-kindness and His wonderful works to the children of men!
But come and rest awhile. What is the rush?
Come see what I have prepared for you?
The choicest fish. The fish I have chosen. Prepared for you. Am I not the Masterchef?
For my light shines to the depths of the sea. With a spotlight I have sought this out. Unable to escape my grasp it was caught up.
You saw me catch it didn’t you? The colours in the water were a sign of the promise. An indicator of what was to come. The many colours distinct but mixed with the pattern of the flow.
