Overtime

Overtime!

If I have purposed it, it shall stand!

My plans are to prosper you, not to harm you, give you hope and a future.

Did I not say to go to the other side!

Did I not set a time for your arrival? Did I not intend for you to arrive by morning?

Despite the delay, despite the storm, despite the opposition, the wave upon wave of opposition, against the means of transport, against your forward movement. Opposed at every step. No anchor for your soul. No respite from the storm. Nothing to hold on to! Oppressed ok very side. Unable to move forward, unwilling to go back. No turning around, but then the turnaround!

Take my hand. I’m pulling you up, not out. Taking you back to the vehicle of transport, the place of togetherness, the place of community. The vehicle tossed by the storm. That which could not move. Delayed, but immovable. My purpose immoveable. My plan un-thwarted. Right where I expected to find you. And yet so far from the shore, the sure, the certain.

Come unto me all you who are storm tossed, weary and heavy laden, and I WILL GIVE YOU REST.

Be at peace, be still! I’m talking to you! The storm is of no consequence. It is unable to threaten by purpose, my timing it.

Delayed, restrained, unable to move forward, but undeterred, undermined, but solid, afloat, on top not beneath.

Come face to face with that which is dead, nose to nose, mouth to mouth, body to body. Be intimate with the corpse. Lay yourself back. Be laid back. Rest on that which is dead.

Breathe on the dry bones and they shall live!

2 Kings 4:30-35 The mother of the child said, As the Lord lives and as my soul lives, I will not leave you. And he arose and followed her. Gehazi passed on before them and laid the staff on the child’s face, but the boy neither spoke nor heard. So he went back to meet Elisha and said to him, The child has not awakened. When Elisha arrived in the house, the child was dead and laid upon his bed. So he went in, shut the door on the two of them, and prayed to the Lord. He went up and lay on the child, put his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands. And as he stretched himself on him and embraced him, the child’s flesh became warm. Then he returned and walked in the house to and fro and went up again and stretched himself upon him. And the child sneezed seven times, and then opened his eyes.

Am I not the God who resurrects? Am I not the God who restores? Am I not the God of the “even now”?

Can I be late? Is not my timing perfect?

How is it that the delay cost me nothing? Can I not stop time itself! Am I ever in a hurry? Am I ever running late? Do I ever need to catch my breath?

Am I not able to skip steps, move that which is immovable? Take that which is out of position and immediately put it in place, on schedule?

Who said it will take time to get there!?

You think I am taking my time. Do you think time even matters to me? I show up late to show you what overdue looks like. Are you overdue?

Are you beyond the point of breaking, beyond your expiry date, “over” what is “due” to you!?

Are you past it? Have you passed it? Has it overtaken you? Are you beyond the point of no return?

Absolutely! Beyond doubt. Into overtime, extra time, “over” “time”. In the place where only I can work!

Immediately they were on the other side!

John 6:20-21 But Jesus said to them, It is I; be not afraid! [I AM; stop being frightened!] Then they were quite willing and glad for Him to come into the boat. And now the boat went at once to the land they had steered toward. [And immediately they reached the shore toward which they had been slowly making their way.]

Into overtime. The siren has sounded, the whistle blown, but the game is not over, until the winner has been found.

I don’t settle for a “tie”, I’m not into a “draw”. I will have the victory!

What I had said WILL come to pass!

Elevated Purpose

I am a man of passion, of purpose, but fundamentally one who holds on to God with every fiber of my being. I learnt some years ago that it is one thing to say that I “trust” God,  or that I “have faith”, but it is a whole other level to obediently put that word, that faith into action.
