Missing

The missing.

The point.

The missing point.

The point of missing.

The point that misses.

The stab that misses.

The stone that misses.

The attack that misses.

The missing.

The piece that is missing.

The peace that is missing.

The oil of joy.

The coat laid to one side.

The coat put aside.

The coat put on one side.

I went looking for you.

You say “I was expecting you to be here”

You say “was this not agreed?” You say “did we not both agree that we would meet here afterwards?”

Is this not the appointed time for us to meet?

Did we not explain this before?

Did we not agree on this plan of attack?

So why the attack?

Why the delay?

What’s missing?

What is missing?

How come you are not here?

How did you choose another position?

You want me to come to you, but I am at the position we agreed?

You have chosen another position!

Now you are grumpy because I called you out on it. What the heck?

Why is it so hard for you to listen and accept instruction?

Who is the one coordinating all the activities?

Why look so puzzled? Why be so annoyed? You are the one not in position!

Is it not so interesting that you wrote these words?

It was easy for you to write them for this was your experience with your child.

Yet you find yourself asking me, “are these your words to me Lord?”

For you it it so clear cut.

For you it makes perfect sense.

For you know the story. You know how the story ends.

So why so puzzled?

How did we end up here Lord? Did you not order my steps, have I not been in step with you? I have seen you break forth, I have seen you silence the most outspoken critic. I have send you physically and literally push back the enemy. So much so that he almost fell off his chair. He was so confident of his plan. He was so brash in his posture. But he never saw you coming! He invited himself over. He invaded our home, he strutted his stuff. But you took him out so easily. I can see it now. I can feel it now. Your power so strong within me. It literally bowled him over. He was completely lost for words.

You seem so convinced of the outcome. You seem so convinced of your defeat.

You bring to your mind.

You bring to your mind.

You wrestle with your mind.

You hear the words of your enemy taunting you.

Yet what is it I bring to your mind.

Power, such power, triumphant power, divine power.

You need to get with the program.

I have given you power, I have given you strength, I have given you dominating power!

No hostile power can overcome you!

Let me say that again, no hostile power can overcome you.

When you look them in the eye, what is it they see?

You think they see your demise.

Yet look again at the reflection in your eyes.

Abject terror, cringing terror, fawning terror.

You have seen well, for they must subjugate and you must dominate.

For you do not look down upon them.

Yet I want them to look up to you.

For you are my point.

They find themselves where they think they should be, but you are missing.

You are in a different place.

You are in a high place.

For you stand upon the high ground.

You see it now don’t you?

They are looking down. When you are up above them. 1 Samuel 9:6-14 The servant said to him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, a man held in honor; all that he says surely comes true. Now let us go there. Perhaps he can show us where we should go. Then Saul said to his servant, But if we go, what shall we bring the man? The bread in our sacks is gone, and there is no gift for the man of God. What have we? The servant replied, I have here a quarter of a shekel of silver. I will give that to the man of God to tell us our way— (Formerly in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, he said, Come, let us go to the seer, for he that is now called a prophet was formerly called a seer.) Saul said to his servant, Well said; come, let us go. So they went to the city where the man of God was. As they went up the hill to the city, they met young maidens going out to draw water, and said to them, Is the seer here? They answered, He is; behold, he is just beyond you. Hurry, for he came today to the city because the people have a sacrifice today on the high place. As you enter the city, you will find him before he goes up to the high place to eat. The people will not eat until he comes to ask the blessing on the sacrifice. Afterward, those who are invited eat. So go on up, for about now you will find him. So they went up to the city, and as they were entering, behold, Samuel came toward them, going up to the high place.

Elevated Purpose

I am a man of passion, of purpose, but fundamentally one who holds on to God with every fiber of my being. I learnt some years ago that it is one thing to say that I “trust” God,  or that I “have faith”, but it is a whole other level to obediently put that word, that faith into action.
