A Bloody Defeat

A Bloody Defeat

Not empty handed but a full hand.

Remove your hand from the thorn? For my blood flows. It overflows. It pours out. Stuck under the surface.

It is only skin deep. It pierces the surface.

It overflows. Over the surface it pools, it covers.

Covered in my blood.

The point of pain. My blood overflows at the point of pain. So much blood. It flows freely. It covers all. It cannot be lanced. It is sufficient. It is more than enough.

The pool of blood is an invitation to the enemy to come. It appears as a sign of defeat. He comes to the place of defeat. He is familiar with the place of defeat.

2 Kings 3:16-17 And he said, Thus says the Lord: Make this [dry] brook bed full of trenches. For thus says the Lord: You shall not see wind or rain, yet that ravine shall be filled with water, so you, your cattle, and your beasts [of burden] may drink. 2 Kings 3:22-24 When they rose up early next morning, and the sun shone upon the water, the Moabites saw the water across from them as red as blood. And they said, This is blood; the kings have surely been fighting and have slain one another. Now then, Moab, to the spoil! But when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them. And they went forward, slaying the Moabites as they went.

But it is a place of ambush. It is the place where there will be much blood. I’m going to kill the giant. Watch me chop off his head. He will not stand. No longer will he chant against my chosen. He will be silent. I had enough of this!

2 Chronicles 13:13 But Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come around them from behind, so his troops were before Judah and the ambush behind. 2 Chronicles 13:14-16 When Judah looked, behold, the battle was before and behind; and they cried to the Lord, and the priests blew the trumpets. Then the men of Judah gave a shout; and as they shouted, God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah. And the Israelites fled before Judah, and God delivered them into their hands.

I’m coming. I’m angry. I’m stepping in. This stronghold shall be broken. Shattered in pieces. Blood splattered all around. An orgy of blood. A bloody orgy.

The violent take it by force. There will be much violence. I will destroy the works of the enemy.

Matthew 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until the present time, the kingdom of heaven has endured violent assault, and violent men seize it by force [as a precious prize—ashare in the heavenly kingdom is sought with most ardent zeal and intense exertion].

I asked you to turn back. To allow the enemy time to catch up. I do my best work when I’m surrounded. I like the enemy up close so he can see defeat up real close. When he sees the blood it reminds him of his moment of defeat.

Wounded for you. Scarred for life. By my stripes you are healed. By my scars yours are removed.

Put your hands in my side. Touch the point of pain. And the point will become pointless. The point will no longer have impact. The scar will be removed.

John 20:25-27 So the other disciples kept telling him, We have seen the Lord! But he said to them, Unless I see in His hands the marks made by the nails and put my finger into the nail prints, and put my hand into His side, I will never believe [it]. Eight days later His disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, though they were behind closed doors, and stood among them and said, Peace to you! Then He said to Thomas, Reach out your finger here, and see My hands; and put out your hand and place [it] in My side. Do not be faithless and incredulous, but [stop your unbelief and] believe!

Elevated Purpose

I am a man of passion, of purpose, but fundamentally one who holds on to God with every fiber of my being. I learnt some years ago that it is one thing to say that I “trust” God,  or that I “have faith”, but it is a whole other level to obediently put that word, that faith into action.
